my new love....

I recently purchased a basil plant because I love fresh herbs and wanted some greenery. His name is Baily...Baily the Basil plant! =) He started out on my kitchen counter since I would rip off some of his leaves for my cooking, but then small knats started coming around so I've moved him outside to the patio. I'm not sure how he'll take the heat but I'm going to work on keeping him hydrated! He's a beaut!

More Berlin pictures

Since my computer is so iffy, I feel as if I'm posting these pictures out of order, but hopefully the captions will help. Seth and I did 4 days in Berlin, one day in Nuremberg, and 3 days in Munich; therefore, I have the most pictures of Berlin since the history there is so rich and there were so many places to see.

<--Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial church: This is the church located by the Zoologischer Garden U-Bahn (their underground subway system). It was bombed during World War II and it's one of the buildings in Berlin that they chose not to reconstruct as it serves as a reminder of war. The building stands in the middle of the modern city so it's pretty cool.

This is the inside of the church. It's a beautiful archway and there's interesting sculptures. Since it's a free memorial, it's pretty crowded and there's lots of people looking at the relics. The memorial displayed the use of the church during the monarchy and it was a beautiful church in its original form.

More Reichstag pictures:

This is Seth waiting in line at the Reichstag in order to go to the tour at the cupola. It was a warm day and he was wearing lots of black. I had gone to the store across the street to buy water. There were these Canadian sisters sitting in front of us and we started chatting with them so it made the wait go a lot faster. One of the sisters was studying in Germany just to study..she was already done with college. I was really jealous and her sister was visiting her for two weeks. Of course, Seth chose to bring up healthcare with them in Canada and it was interesting to hear the comparison between the two. I love meeting people from all over the world during travels. It's interesting to hear people's viewpoints and see how they live. I believe that it's only through traveling the world in which you can understand humanity's pitfalls as well as its triumphs.

When you get to the top of the Reichstag via a fast elevator, you can walk out onto the balcony to see the city prior to walking up and around the cupola for the city views. It's pretty neat that the Germans have this set up for public viewing and there's even free audio-guides that you can get to guide you through what buildings you're looking at around the city. Seth and I didn't use the audioguide because I just wanted to race to the top.

And what makes this piece of architecture so cool is that in the middle of the cupola is this huge tower of mirrors. So, as you're walking up the winding cupola, there's always these mirrors reflecting the city. Seth and I stood at the bottom and took this picture staring up at it.

It's currently about 8 am here and of course I'm wide awake typing away on my blog. Seth is still asleep. We're staying on a street called Schillerstrasse in Munich and it's a long street with lots of hotels...and a few strip clubs. The funny thing is that the hotel we are staying at, Hotel Royal (http://www.hotel-royal.de/pages/hotel) is highly recommended on trip advisor and the location..with the exception of the strip clubs is awesome since it's next to the train station. We are also within walking distance of the main city center, Marienplatz, where there's lots of shopping and the buildings are awesome. Here's another thing I constantly have to remind myself of: Just because it's not familiar to me doesn't mean that it's not good. Seth keeps calling this place sketch, but it's because we're American and we're not used to having a hotel next to a strip club. This hotel, funny enough, was also included in our Top 10 book that our friend lent us, as one of the top 10 budget hotels. At 150Euro a night, we'd hardly consider that budget in the states since you can get a nice hotel room for $120 in most places, but things are just different in Europe and of course, it's peak season.

Last night, after having dinner and after the Hoffbrauhaus, we passed by Marienplatz on our way home. There was a band playing on the square and a crowd of people watching. I love street performances and it was great to have the European backdrop.

Oh, and of course the coolest fact that we learned yesterday is that Munich has the best tap water in the world. Seth loves this since I am not really a big tap water drinker, but now that we know it's the best in the world, I can drink it and stop spending 2.50 Euro every few hours buying bottled water from convenience stores. The tap water is what the breweries use in their beer!

Well, till next time!

Deliciousness and Hoffbrauhaus!!

<--Seth with his one liter of Original Hoffbrauhaus brew!
<--This is my little beer at the Hoffbrauhaus. It was good and the atmosphere was lots of fun! They play live music with this traditional band and people just sit down at your long table. We were sitting next to a guy from Switzerland.

<--Seth and I went to dinner at this awesome restaurant next to the Munich farmer's market; recommended by our Dachau tour guide, it was delicious and the beer garden was so romantic. The food was delicious. Seth is eating sausage, saurkraute, and potato salad..pretty traditional german foods. I had a dish with potatoes, mushrooms, tomatoes, meats, and a fried egg on top. It was so yummy!

church in Marianplatz

Seth and I hit up Marienplatz today, the center downtown area of Munich. Per our guidebook, there's this great baroque-style church and we went to it. It was quite amazing and ornate and I felt like I had been transformed into a different time period. It was really neat to go into a church like that in downtown Munich.

Reichstag

So, my little Sony Cybershot which I've had for about five years is also starting to fritz out on me, but I have been able to use it on this trip and I have been able to upload some pictures. So, here are a few other pics....

This is the Reichstag, the German Parliamentary building. That small dome in the middle is what Seth and I waited in line for about an hour and a half (we lucked out--earlier in the day, it was a four hour wait) and got to climb to the top. It's a really great piece of democratic architecture because the lawmakers can look up and see the people and always remember who they are serving.

This is the view from the top of the Reichstag. I loved it!!! Poor Seth is a little bit afraid of heights.

Brandenburg Gate!!

Yes! I got one picture posted prior to my computer crashing. Here's Seth in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. It was so neat to see it in person! But to be honest, it wasn't as big as we thought it was going to be..It was big, just not as big as it looked in pictures.

Germany, fritzing computer, and travels

So, Seth and I are on the last leg of our trip in Munich and we finally have free wireless at our hotel. Unfortunately, my computer keeps blue screening so I don't know if I'll be able to post pictures until I arrive home on Friday and I'll have to use Seth's computer. Our travels have been amazing and I feel so blessed to have had this opportunity to travel with my husband prior to our new jobs!

pics....

The internet connection here is finally letting me post some pics from the past few months

<---This is a picture of the the mountains in Tucson, I believe these are the Catalinas..I'm still learning my mountain ranges.

In April, Seth's brother and wife gave birth to our beautiful niece, Abigail. She is such a sweet baby and such a joy!!

Here is Seth with her..she's SOOO cute!!

In Phoenix...at the hotel..night before Germany!!

Seth and I are departing for Berlin bright and early tomorrow. Berlin is approximately 9 hours ahead of Pacific time and we get there on Thursday morning at 9:30 am. Seth's plan is for us to visit a concentration camp right away and on Friday, we have paid and made a reservation for the Berlin walking tour.
I wanted to post some pictures from the past couple of months to share, but the internet connection here isn't letting me do so. =( The past few weeks have been a crazy blur. Seth and I got to Tucson, set up home, ran errands, got car insurance, spent the morning at the DMV, and did all the fun things of new a move. Our Arizona license lasts until we are 65 so we chuckle about it and I will probably try to not get another license when we move to another state!
My parents arrived last Thursday and then my brother flew in on Saturday. It was so great to have my parents around as they brought tons of houseware items that they didn't use and LOTS of food. My parents stocked up the kitchen with items I love from my childhood including chocolate covered cookies, crackers, and chocolate covered macademia nuts. My dad also made his famous dumplings for Seth and I to leave in the freezer so that if we didn't feel like cooking, we can just boil those and then fry them up. It was really nice to have family dinners and just sit around and chat. I just love being around the family even if we aren't doing anything special. When my brother arrived, he was so sweet and he brought me one of my favorite things, a chocolate cake from Extraordinary Desserts: www.extraordinarydesserts.com/
The cakes at this place are divine!!! I wished that my parents lived closer to this place as both locations in San Diego are about 30 minutes from their home, but I'm glad that they don't or else I would have no money from eating too much cake!
We also took a trip down to South Tucson to try out BK's Hotdogs versus El Guero Canelo which are famous for their competing Sonoran hotdogs. They were pretty good, but we all decided that we are BK fans. I first saw these two restaurants pitted against each other on the Travel Channel and so it was really fun to see the places in person!

Anyhow, I am very excited about Germany, but I'm going to go brush up on some more googling of German items since Seth and I discovered at dinner tonite that neither of us really know anything about Germany food. Anyhow, I'll try to update some pics when I'm in germany, but I'm sure that I'll have spotty internet. :( Until next time..may you find happy thoughts, sunshine, and laughter heading your way!

Friday!!!

I didn't get a chance to put in another entry last night so I guess it will have to wait since we don't have internet at the apartment yet. I got caught up last night calling in and ordering our cable and our internet; then Seth and I watched some movie on HBO.

I am so excited that by tonight, we will be in Tucson and in our empty apartment!

First Leg.....

Seth and I departed from Madison this morning at approximately 7:10 am. It was sad to leave Madison, but I am sure that we will try to go back when we have a chance. I am going to miss the greenery and the lakes of Madison when I think about living in the desert of Tucson.

Anyhow, Seth and I made good time and we were in Wichita Wisconsin by 6 pm. After a delicious dinner at Bonefish Grill, we went to the hotel and caught up on the episode of LOST that we missed last night. The picture on the left is the picture of a sign that I put up in the back passenger window. Seth wanted me to make it since my poor Camry is so full of stuff that we're scared of bottoming out. So, pray for us that we make it safely and with all of our belongings!

Missouri
This roadtrip is certainly exposing me to the heartland of the states. I think that roadtripping is really fun and I can't believe that I've driven from Virginia to Wisconsin and now from Wisconsin to Arizona. We drove through four states today! Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, and Kansas. I had the honor of seeing the Mighty Mississippi and the Mighty Missouri today as Seth likes to call it.

Mississippi
The weather started out beautiful today and then it just rained all through Kansas. However, the heartland was not as flat as we thought it would be. There were quite the rolling hills and it was nice and green. Can you tell that my theme is looking at greenery since it doesn't seem like there will be much in Tucson? At least our apartment complex has greenery. =)

Another funny sight that we saw in Iowa was this casino called the Terrible Casino. I just liked how it was this large cowboy..it was quite entertaining to see something like this in Iowa after just driving through farmland. It's funny because no matter how many fields of cows I saw today, I still thought that they were really cute and I loved seeing calves in the field also. I asked Seth if he would ever want to have a farm and he said that it's a lot of work and I asked him if we could just have farm animals for pets. He didn't answer me....

And of course, the milestone of this trip is that my Toyota Camry hit 100,000 miles!!! I've put a lot of miles on my car over these past two years and I can't believe that it's over a hundred thousand now. We made sure to take a picture of this momentous moment for the Green Hornet, Seth's nickname for my car.

And some silly pics from graduation....

Seth and I are holding the tulip to support its growth.

Seth pointing at a map of Downtown Madison.

And of course...the boot of Essen Haus!!

Ok, till my next posting!! Miss you all!

The night before the drive....

It is five minutes until the morning that Seth and I are about to embark upon our journey to the smoldering hot desert of Tucson, AZ. After a long night, I just can't bring myself to sleep yet without first blogging. Seth is of course in bed after a long day and I just needed to get some thoughts down on the blog.

The whole day was spent packing, shipping, and running random errands. I had my car battery checked out this morning after the people at Midas told me that my battery was not doing so hot. After a second opinion at Advance Auto Parts, it appears that my battery is good, which is good for me, and I hope it will prevail on our trip out to the wild wild west.

After finishing packing, we went out to dinner with the Baggott family and Seth's mom. We went to Mama Mia, which is always delicious and as always, I ate too much. It was a great time and it reminds me how lucky Seth and I were to have the friendships and relationships that we did during the time I lived in Wisconsin. Truly, Seth and I have lived an incredibly blessed life and I will always be so grateful for the family and friends that God has provided in my life. I know that Seth will miss his dear friend, Chris Baggott a lot as Chris is to Seth as Briana is to me. There are just some friendships in life that will always be so special because of the timing of these friendships. I just hope that Seth and I will always be able to keep in touch with everyone and that our paths will cross again in the not too distant future.

As I think about Arizona, this will be the fourth state that I reside in. It's crazy to think back to high school, I never imagined myself in this position of moving all the time, but so goes life. Adventures are great, but I am excited for when we settle down and have a permanent home. I am excited to set up home in Arizona and it has been fun picking out items with Seth for our new apartment.

My next goal is to somehow set up video g-chat so that Seth and I can chat with our family and be able to see the kids when we're chatting. I know that they will just grow up so fast. Anyhow, better head to bed now since it's officially May 19th.

A New Beginning

The title of my post is "A New Beginning" because I am officially going to be closing out another chapter in my life in the next couple of weeks. As I look back on the two years that I have spent in Milwaukee, I am shocked at how fast time flies and how important relationships are. I have had many definitive chapters in my life: graduating high school, graduating college, getting my first job. Now that I'm moving onto my second job, I am really anxious to see how things will turn out and how living Seth, my husband of almost a year, will actually be! I am so excited to just have a new beginning with him in Arizona and I think it will make us a stronger couple for having this opportunity.

Yesterday was my last day of work at EY...well, technically my last work day was Thursday and I just went in on Friday morning in order to turn in my computer and my paperwork. It was very bittersweet because I had had a great last two weeks at the firm. I left on a high note and so it made me sad to say goodbye to my desk, the supply room, etc. knowing that I will most likely never return to Big 4 Public Accounting. I posted on my facebook wall that it was bittersweet and my friend, Phil, a former EY'er said, it won't be bittersweet come Monday and I thought about it and I think I agree with the sentiment.

During the day, I packed up items and just relaxed and then I had a little going away happy hour in which I got to see the people that I had gotten to know over the past couple of weeks. I was really happy that I got to spend time with my favorite people at EY. For dinner, we went to Barbiere's and I just love this pizza joint. Our friend, Chris' parents have been going there since they were young and they have the best garlic bread ever. Chris has been talking about it forever, but we didn't make it out for our first time until a couple of weeks ago. I'm definitely going to miss it when we are in Tucson. However, there will be no shortage of good Mexican food which makes me very excited.

I am writing this blog while I am at the airport and I decided to just snap a picture of Seth with his one leftover breadstick from Sbarro's. I love the episode of the Office where Michael is in New York City and he says that he loves this awesome neighborhood pizza place and he walks up to a Sbarro's. I decided to pack my own lunch as I have been eating pretty poorly lately and I packed a PB&J sandwich, strawberries, and veggie booty..which reminds me of Cheetos, but they're smaller and supposedly healthier.

For those of you who have started reading this blog, know that writing is a hobby that I'd really like to pick up and so this blog is going to include thoughts on people, travel, and life itself. It's always nice to write things down and get your thoughts and feelings onto paper or a blog. I used to journal every night as a kid and when I go back to my parent's place, I laugh at the thoughts and the things that I wrote. It's something that I can one day show my kids and they'll think, mom, you were ridiculous.

And to end my first post, I took snapped a picture of what Seth is doing while I am blogging:
